Configuring Custom Comments

What are Custom Comments?

Custom Comments enable you to set the comments for people to be banned within a second without losing important information about why that certain player has been banned. A keyword identifies the kind of reason. To each keyword belongs a string that contains variables. These will be substituted with the information they stand for. I.e. if you use "/ban BadGuy leaver" within Warcraft III, BadGuy will be banned with comment "leaver (5*v5) on Northrend (02/2005)". The asterisk is behind the first five, because he belonged to that team. Each team had had five players before he had left. -WC3Banlist Help

What are Valid Reasons to Ban?

Ban Reasons

How to Create Custom Comments (with pics!)

  1. Open Wc3Banlist!
  2. Open the "Preferences" tab.
    configure1.gif
  3. Click "Custom Comments" on the sidebar.
    configure2.gif
  4. To create a new custom comment click the [+] sign, in the box that comes up type the name you wish the comment to have (make it something short and easy to remember for quick use). Then select the comment from the list and type in what you wish it to do in the text bar.

Using Custom Comments

Example: AFK example

You type "/ban [player name] [keyword]"

Custom Comment afk: AFK for more then 10+ minutes without explanation ($month/$day/$year) on Azeroth

If a player named "OmegaX1" went AFK for a prolonged period of time and it warranted a ban I would of type out "/ban OmegaX1 AFKs for a long time without saying anything on azeroth" BUT with custom comments that I have created I can type out something much shorter and get all the important information in my ban "/ban OmegaX1 afk". The ban would turn out to like this "AFK for more then 10+ minutes without explanation (08/05/2006) on Azeroth".

Adavnced Example: There is a variable called $param which you can use in custom comments to easily add in extra important information that you want to include in a ban.

You type "/ban [player name] [keyword] [extra details which will replace the $param]"

Custom Comment leaver: Leaver ($ratio)@$gametime $param on Azeroth

If a player named "Gato23" had a score of 0-24 and left the game 10 minutes in and I typed "/ban Gato23 leaver score:0-24 fed the other team a lot" then the ban would turn out as "Leaver (5*v5)@00:10:00 score:0-24 fed the other team a lot on Azeroth". The variable $param enables us to put extra important information into the ban.

What Should Custom Comments Include?

There are many important variables that a custom comment should include.

Neccessary Variables - ($ratio/$gamestate, $day $month $year, $realm)
Optional Variables - ($gametitle, $gametime, $param)

Example Custom Comments (Mine!)

Why do I list date first?

I list the date first so that I can order my bans chronologically. You do not have to list the date first but it really helped me order my bans.

There are many other custom commments that you can create. Some split leaver up into leaver, first death leaver, countdown leaver, leaver on death, and first blood leaver. I like to keep my phrases simple and just add those comments in the $param. Check out other people’s custom comments here to find other custom comments.
