About Us

Simply put, Banlist is a program used to keep leavers and flamers out of DOTA games. Call it whatever you want; it is basically a virtual blocklist for the people who ruin your games. It also performs other functions to enhance your DOTA experience, such as checking pings to keep laggers out of your games and Auto-saving your replays. It is a great tool for any host on Battle.net.

The Banlist.nl forum was put together to discuss the Banlist. After reading all of this, Banlist.nl should be the first place you go to learn anything else you need to know about banlist and banning. Banlist.nl is also there to convince people to share their bans, because there is only one "you" on B.net and over 1,000,000 people on your realm.

We realize that no one is perfect. Banlist is abusable, and sadly some hosts use Banlist in undesireable ways. This is why we don’t use a "global banlist". However, we do have Approved Hosts and Shared Hosts. These hosts are proven to ban reliably and follow given rules when banning. (They cannot ban you for being a "noob" or if you own them too much because that is not a responsible host’s behavior.) We encourage every host to increase the quality of his or her bans. Go to Banlist.nl to learn more about the following:

Approved Host (AH) - Someone who has been with Banlist for a while and has proven himself or herself to be a longtime, reliable person. Approved Hosts also help run Banlist.nl and are the best people to ask for help on almost anything.

Shared Host (SH) - About a year ago, each of the realms decided that it should have its own banning system. There were too many good users out there who had great bans, but were not there long enough to become an AH. Each realm formed its own XML of bans. The users on these lists constantly check each other’s Banlists for errors. Their bans are just as reliable as the AH bans.

Sharing Groups (SG) - Each realm has its own sharing group. The people in these sharing groups are not necessarily in the realm’s XML file, but they would still like to contribute bans and have people download their list until they create enough quality bans to become part of the XML.

There is always room for more people in the Sharing Groups. If you are a reliable host, please come to the Banlist Forums and sign up for an account to make your bans matter. I hope to see you there!
